Hene Kelly for DCCC 2016
I am a woman of mature years, a seasoned veteran of politics at the grassroots level, and a vocal leader of active demonstrations. I was raised in a household where my father, an Orthodox Rabbi, taught me that there are 613 laws that Jews must obey. He added two additional rules for our family: "Though shalt not cross a picket line, and thou shalt always vote for Democrats and believe in the principles of Democracy."
I am a retired San Francisco public school teacher. I am a longtime member of the JCRC Metropolitan Council where I represent the Jewish Labor Committee (JLC). I am a longtime officer of both the San Francisco Labor Council (SFLC) and the California Alliance for Retired Americans (CARA). Throughout my life, I’ve mentored young women and people of color who want to become active in politics and seek public office. I’ve fought for childbearing and childcare leave for educators and city workers. I continue to teach advocacy classes for seniors, young adults, and union members of all age groups.
I am running for the DCCC because I want to energize The Democratic Party in San Francisco. If re-elected, I will continue to expand Democratic voter registration, to endorse and elect qualified and dynamic Democratic candidates, and to raise funds for the Democratic Party. I will continue to vote to make sure that the San Francisco Democratic Party supports issues, legislation, and initiatives that are in keeping with San Francisco values and help uplift all San Franciscans.
